For kids in grades 2-12! Join us to learn more about traditional Ojibwe ricing practices with Megan Lhotka. To begin, we will view a video about traditional ricing from Leech Lake and White Earth Nations. Afterwards, participants will explore rice from green stalk to finished rice and walk away with a wild rice book in Ojibwemowin.
Megan (Miinanikwe) Lhotka is a descendant of the White Earth Band of Pembina Ojibwe in Northwest MN. As the Cultural Liaison for the Center of American Indian and Minority Health. In her role, through collaboration with the University of Minnesota Medical School and the Medica Foundation, Miinanikwe supports Indigenous youth of the White Earth Reservation gain interests in health and science careers. Miinaikwe is a medicine keeper who shares her knowledge and continues her learning through language and community.
