NEW WORKSHOP! Reading the Room: The Importance of Understanding Body Language in Forensic Interviews

Body language makes up roughly 93% of our communication; thus, making it a highly influential piece of interviewing. During the first half of this workshop, participants will learn how to read interviewee body language cues in forensic interviews and to what extent they happen subconsciously. We will discuss how body language cues may be dependent on a child’s age, gender, culture, abilities, and experiences. Participants will also learn the importance of the role that body language plays in an interview. During the second half of this workshop, participants will learn about interviewer body language. We will discuss subconscious interviewer body language and the possible implications this body language could have on the child being interviewed. Participants will learn how to be socially supportive in their body language while remaining neutral. Throughout this workshop, we will discuss and watch case examples looking at prominent body language cues.
