I am involved in First Witness because I have family members who were abused and didn’t report the abuse until many years after it had happened. At that point the abuser had died and while there was some counseling for the abused, other affected family members didn’t seek any counseling. This has resulted in pain, guilt, mental health issues, alcoholism and many other challenges with family dynamics. I serve First Witness so that we can educate others to prevent child abuse and provide a path to healing for families when abuse occurs. I don’t want another family to go through the painful after effects that result from not seeking help.
