Participants will learn the basics of crochet and get the chance to create and take home a project that they made. We will provide the crochet hook and yarn for this event, no need to bring your own supplies. Work with your team of fellow explorers to solve the puzzles and locate the clues to escape the tower in the least amount of time. There will be two sessions of Escape Enger Tower. Sign up and meet on the Michigan Street Plaza stage area of the Main Library at the start time. Transportation provided both to Enger Tower and back to the library afterwards. The library is open until 8:00 p.m. on Thursdays. Teens can wait in the teen space of the library for rides. This event is for ages 14-17! Willow Brae features a unique and wide array of seldom-heard instruments, both plucked and wind-powered, in each program. Throughout their performances, Laura and Andrea provide fascinating historical and cultural information about the instruments and their music, all delivered with humor and skill. We will spend a week together exploring the art of the arts! With nationally recognized musician and writer Mary Bue, trauma-informed staff, and experts in fields across the arts, this camp is for students to try new forms of self-expression in a safe space. Students will finish the week with their own journal art supplies, and even a musical instrument to keep. The camp fee is grant-supported thanks to St. Louis country Family Services, and there is no fee for qualifying students. Lunch is provided, and transportation is available if needed. Welcome to our Natural Connections Series! This environmental literacy program has seasonal activities designed to help youth explore and develop their relationships with our plant and animal community members. Did you know that many of the plants we call “weeds” that grow in lawns have “magical” healing powers? In this third session in the series participants will get to know some common plants and the ways that they have been used as medicines since time immemorial, and gain an appreciation of the gifts that nature provides that are all around us! Participants will go on a plant walk to get to know some of the plants in the library garden, make a healing lip balm with wild harvested plant medicine, taste test and create their own herbal elixir, and do some nature-crafting!
