For kids ages birth to five and their caregivers. Join Miss Carrie for a group sing-a-long and dance party! We’ll be dancing, grooving and feeling the beat. Be prepared to move your body and sing some favorite storytime and other songs.

For grades 2-8. Please join us for this presentation by Donna "Grizz" Andrews, which includes photos, videos and lots of wild stories about Minnesota bears. Learn helpful techniques for coexisting with bears, including tips to understand bear language, behavior, how to keep everyone safe, and how to be a good neighbor to the bears who live in our communities. Come prepared to see some cute bears! Donna "Grizz" Andrews has been a bear advocate for many years, acting as a guide, advisor and presenter for various educational organizations and private groups across the United States and Canada.

For grades 6-12. Create and game in the teen space of the Main Library. There will be a different craft to do each month with Nintendo Switch™️gaming and board games available.

Geared for kids ages birth to preschool, we will share books, songs, and fingerplays. The focus will be on having fun and sharing the joy of learning essential early literacy skills.

For kids in grades K-8! Practice reading with therapy dogs who love to be read to. Each kid will sign up for a 5-10-minute reading slot when they arrive. Borrow a library book or bring your own; one book per kid. Offered in two sessions:
First session will be with Oliver, Winslow, or Lars.
Second session will be with Clyde.

Best suited for kids in grades 2-5. Calling all builders and engineers! Join us in the Blue Room for LEGO building challenges. Drop in to find out and participate in this month's challenge!

Do you love to build stuff? Come join us for our Kid Construction Series! Our first gathering of the month we’ll have some fun with LEGOs! Our second gathering of the month, in addition to the LEGOs, we’ll get out an assortment of other cool building toys, as well as everyday household building materials like cardboard, popsicle sticks and recycled materials. Each session participants can partake in different building challenges, or chose to free build and let their imaginations guild their creations! For kids in grades K-7. Kids ages 7 and under must be accompanied by a caregiver!

This month's theme is Lord of the Rings. Never judge a book by its cover... unless you're playing Book Bingo! In a twist on the classic game, bingo numbers get replaced with book covers and other themes. You don't even have to be able to read to play. Win cool books just by playing! Fun for the whole family. Dungeons and Dragons is back at the Mt. Royal Branch Library! The group consists of 6-8 players and will meet every third Wednesday of the month. Registration is required. Select 'Book Now' to sign up. For teens in grades 6-12.

Join us for a series of free programs for families with children ages birth to five! Starting this summer, the Every Child Ready Duluth Coalition is bringing early literacy to a different community location each month. Drop in anytime from 4:30-6:00pm to play and learn with your little ones, meet other families, and connect with community resources. Light snacks will be provided. Activities will be geared towards children ages five and younger but the whole family is welcome to participate. This month, let's sing! We'll meet at Lincoln Park and enjoy activities and live music with Robi Myerson by the playground. Plus the Duluth Police Department will bring their ice cream bus with cool treats for all! Lincoln Park Children and Families Collaborative and ISD 709 ECFE will be hosting the activities with the library. Series dates and locations:

For teens in grades 6-12! Watch anime, discuss manga, create, play games, and hang out with others who love anime and manga. Pizza is served while it lasts.

For ages 11 and up. Learn basic basketry skills and stitch techniques to create a small coiled basket in this guided workshop. Participants will start by wrapping yarn around a cotton rope core to build the base of their basket. Erika LeMay will guide attendees through stitching and creating simple patterns using different colors. Beginner artists will follow along to spiral their baskets outward and upward to complete a functional work of art! This workshop is a 2.5 hours long art experience designed for adults, teens, and children, ages 11 years or older. Adult assistance will be needed for younger children to participate. Registration is required. This program, sponsored by Arrowhead Library System, was funded in part or in whole with money from Minnesota's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund (ACHF).

STEM for Kids is a fun hands-on series focused on learning through discovery and play. What causes magnets to stick to different objects? How does a compass work? We are going to do some fun and creative experiments to learn more about magnetism, including creating your very own magnetic slime! For grades 2-5. Registration is required. For grades 6-12. Celebrate and roast a horribly awesome movie! This month's movie is Percy Jackson & the Olympians- The Lightning Thief -2010, rated PG, 118 Minutes. Movie-style snacks will be served.

This program is for grades 6-12. School is back in session, and the West Duluth Library is offering a drop-in program for teens to learn how to access homework help using our Brainfuse database. Did you know about FREE online tutoring available from 2:00-11:00 p.m? If you bring in your Chromebook, we can help to bookmark the program for when you need it! Back-to-school care packages, including a good book, will be available for teens who stop in to find out more (while supplies last).

To begin, we will view a video about traditional ricing from Leech Lake and White Earth Nations. Afterwards, participants will explore rice from green stalk to finished rice and walk away with a wild rice book in Ojibwemowin. Megan (Miinanikwe) Lhotka is a descendant of the White Earth Band of Pembina Ojibwe in Northwest MN. As the Cultural Liaison for the Center of American Indian and Minority Health. In her role, through collaboration with the University of Minnesota Medical School and the Medica Foundation, Miinanikwe supports Indigenous youth of the White Earth Reservation gain interests in health and science careers. Miinaikwe is a medicine keeper who shares her knowledge and continues her learning through language and community.

For kids in grades 4-12. Join us to learn traditional Ojibwe wild rice preparation techniques with Joseph Gokee and Megan Lhotka. Participants will walk through the steps of how to finish and prepare wild rice by cooking and eating it in a traditional way. Megan Lhotka (Miinanikwe) is a descendant of the White Earth Band of Pembina Ojibwe in NorthWest MN. As the Cultural Liaison for the Center of American Indian and Minority Health. In her role, through collaboration with the University of Minnesota Medical School and the Medica Foundation, Miinanikwe supports Indigenous youth of the White Earth Reservation gain interests in health and science careers. Miinaikwe is a medicine keeper who shares her knowledge and continues her learning through language and community. Joseph Gokee is a tribal member of the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Ojibwe.

For grades K-2. Join us to use all our senses to experience an Ojibwe fall tradition with Megan Lhotka. Participants will utilize sensory bins to explore dry and wet concepts and develop scientific hypothesis about wild rice.
